Affordable Luxury is Possible in Santorini

On a island in Greece its hard to imagine affordability but here are 5 affordable luxury things to do in Santorini.

Catamaran Day

One of my favorite activities anywhere in the world with water is a catamaran day!!! Suns out, buns out, music playing, yummy Mediterranean food, and crisp cocktails—say less. On a boat tour in Santorini, you get a much better perspective of the island’s true beauty. Cruise on the Aegean Sea with the breeze in your hair, relax, jump in the water to cool at multiple exciting swimming spots, enjoy the hot springs, snorkel, and sail around volcanoes—the fun is endless.

Wine Tasting

Santorini is surprisingly a wine connoisseur’s heaven. One would think of France or Italy, but the soil in Santorini is partially composed of volcanic sediments, which gives the wine a uniquely delicious flavor. They are also grown in circles on the floor rather than upright to protect them from the ocean winds. One of the island’s largest and most famous wineries is Santo Wines in Pyrgos. I recommend a wine tour to visit several wineries that are all reasonably close together. Get your guide has the perfect affordable tour that is more than worth it.

Dining in Ammoudi Bay

I had one of the best meals of my life in Ammoudi Bay. This is the perfect place to watch the sunset, enjoy fresh seafood, and enjoy the incredible views of the Caldera. This is also an excellent place for cliff jumping. You can also reach the bay by car or the built-in stairs from the top of the Caldera in Oia. I recommend walking down and taking a taxi back up. Eating at Sunset Ammoudi by Paraskevas is a must, and making early reservations for a waterfront seat is highly recommended.

Kamari Beach

Recommended and loved by locals, this was by far my favorite beach in Santorini. I recommend a beach day here. Renting sun loungers and umbrellas and having beachside food and beverage service is the definition of affordable luxury! Make sure to pack water shoes because the beaches in Santorini are all pebbles of volcanic remains.

Staying in a Cave Hotel

Staying in a white-washed cave hotel carved right into the Caldera is the ultimate Santorini experience. Most come with insane views of the ocean and your own private pool/jacuzzi for ultimate privacy and relaxation. This is truly the essence of Santorini. Of course, these hotels can be really expensive, but if you research and book in advance, there are some great deals, and it’s totally affordable.
