My first post on this page had to be about Practicing Buddhism with the SGI-USA. It is the most inspirational and impactful part of my life.
Buddhism is the reason I am who I am today and all the fortune I am beyond grateful to have. The Soka Gakkai International (SGI) is a grass-roots Buddhist organization with 12 million practitioners in 192 countries and territories.
I love that the essence of Buddhism is the conviction that we each have within us the ability to overcome any problem or difficulty that we may encounter in life.
I whole heartedly believe in the power of being in rhythm with the mystic law or universe by chanting a mantra called Nam Myoho Renge Kyo.
The Practice
In the morning and evening I recite the mantra along with reciting two chapters of the Lotus Sutra. By practicing Buddhism and chanting Nam-myoho-renge-kyo, we awaken to the reality that within our life is unlimited reserves of courage, wisdom and compassion—that we are in fact Buddhas..
Nam Myoho Renge Kyo translates to devotion to the mystic law (universe) of cause and effect (karma) through the vibration of sound(chanting aloud Nam Myoho Renge Kyo).
In Buddhism the Lotus flower represents Karma or the simultaneity of cause and effect. I love that it has such a profound meaning being the only flower that blossoms and seeds at the same time, along with being able to grow from the mud into one of the most beautiful flowers.
